She was one of the top fashion models of the 1990s. Whilst modeling in Japan in the early 1990s she made the bold decision to shave her head bald and have a Chinese dragon tattooed on her scalp. Her distinctive look was spotted by Jean Paul Gaultier and soon she became a top model in the European fashion capitals. She would often grow her hair and dye it blonde, red or even pink. For the last few years she has sported very short blonde hair and moved away from modeling, but returned to the catwalk in 2006. In 2007 she shaved her head again and is currently bald.

Photographed by: Max Abadian Behind the lens: Unlike many others before her, Quebec-born model Salvail always walked on a runway of her own—sporting cropped hair, dragon tattoos and underground club wear on and off duty. Which is probably why she became one of Jean Paul Gaultier’s darlings in the 1990s. This close-up photo captures her independent nature and otherworldly spirit.

She also rock the buzzed cut in the movie The Fifth Element.
