If you haven’t seen StarWars The Force Awakens yet, you should. Then you should read this. Anyhow, Daisy Ridley, one of the stars of the new Star Wars movie (Episode VII The Force Awakens), rocks an interesting and functional tri-knot hairstyle. Obviously, her predecessors (Carrie Fisher, Princess Leia) hair was a unique hairstyle all it’s own with the ear covering giant buns. Rey’s hairstyle is more functional and less regal. Which makes sense for the movie plot, not knowing where she really comes from, and living essentially abandoned as an orphan. But it is functional and stylish. Almost like a samurai warriors topknot, just for longer hair that isn’t undercut. And so I call it a triple knot, not triple bun, because it’s really not a bun style.
Hmmm, that rambled a bit. Have a look at some pictures to see what I mean, and give it a try to see if it really is functional for real life of fighting for the goodness of the galaxy.
For those of you looking for costume information, here a great guide to Rey’s costume and what types of materials to use when your building your own. And how to wear it, legging straps and boots, and the tunic crossed over should look just right.
